How to boost your immune system

by: Trine Kastbjerg Produktinformation Kroppen

When autumn sets in, many of us start wondering how to take care of our immune system. However, your immune system needs care all year round, and there’s a lot you can do – even in summer. The UV rays of the sun on summer days provides your skin with Vitamin D, which contributes to the normal function of your immune system.

Okay, so what is this immune system everyone talks about...?

Your immune system is your body’s defence against pathogenic invaders. It consists of physical barriers, like your skin and mucous membranes, and millions of white blood cells inside your body.

You may not be able to tell your mucous membranes or white blood cells what to do, but there’s still a lot you can do. You can, for instance, take dietary supplements of substances that will boost your immune system. This article covers some of the many immune system supplements of the Natur-Drogeriet product palette.

Vitamins A, B, C and D

You probably know that there are a number of vitamins – nutrients that your body is unable to produce by itself so they must be supplied through your diet or via dietary supplements.

There are two groups of vitamins: water-soluble and fat-soluble. The latter must be ingested with the fats that you eat to make sure that they are absorbed by your body.

Vitamin A is fat-soluble. It is available in 900 µg tablets. Vitamin A contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Vitamins B are an entire group of water-soluble vitamins. Some of them contribute to the normal function of the immune system, e.g., B6 and B12. Folic acid (Vitamin B9) helps to maintain the normal function of your immune system.

The next letter of the Vitamin alphabet is C, which – like A and B – contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin C is water-soluble, and you find it in the following Natur-Drogeriet products:

The last vitamin we present in this article is Vitamin D. It is difficult to get sufficient quantities of this fat-soluble vitamin through your diet. An excellent source of Vitamin D is the sun: its UV rays make the skin synthesize the vitamin.

Vitamin D contributes to the function of the immune system and to the normal function of your muscles. We carry a number of Vitamin D products: 25 µg, 35 µg or 85 µg per capsule or tablet.

Herbal supplements

The Natur-Drogeriet history is based on herbs. Consequently, it goes without saying that our product palette covers a vast number of dietary supplements containing herbs that boost your immune system. Here are a few examples:

Ipe Roxo is the name of a South American tree from which the inner bark is used for dietary supplement products. Ipe Roxo helps to maintain the normal function of your immune system, and it is available from Natur-Drogeriet in drops or capsules.

The common denominator of the Urte-pensil products, Kiss Me, VirCil and Echinacea Complex is echinacea, aka coneflower, which contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Kiss Me is part of our Complx Series that covers a number of products combining herbs, vitamins, minerals and/or amino acids. In addition to echinacea, Kiss Me contains olive leaves, lysine, zinc, quercetin and selenium. Olive leaves, zinc and selenium all contribute to the normal function of the immune system.

Powdered olive leaves are also available without other ingredients in the Phyto Series® product Olivir.

The last plant parts covered by this article are two roots: turmeric and ginger. Turmeric helps to maintain the effectiveness of the immune system, and ginger contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Ginger capsules are available as part of the Phyto Series, and turmeric comes in several products:

Minerals

To conclude this article, we take a look at some of the minerals that have an impact on your immune system.

We covered selenium and zinc in our description of Kiss Me. You can also buy these two minerals as single dietary supplements. They both contribute to the normal function of the immune system.

Iron helps you feel less tired and exhausted – in addition to its effect on the immune system. Our iron tablets each contain 25 mg.

Feeling overwhelmed?

This run-through of dietary supplements for your immune system may have left you a bit overwhelmed. But we do hope that you now know a bit more about the ”good stuff” covered by our wide assortment.

If you’ve reached the conclusion that you need a lot of different herbs, vitamins and minerals, you may want to take a look at a multi vitamin/mineral product such as Maximum. These tablets are a combination of 13 vitamins, 10 minerals and ginseng, and the recommended daily intake is 1 tablet with a main meal.
