In foods, the maximum intake of caffeine is 300 mg = 4-10 g guarana seeds per day.
Guarana originates in the Amazon basin of Brazil. It is a climbing plant, called "guaranazeiro" in Portuguese. Native indians used the brown seeds of this plant to survive very rough and primitive conditions - long before Europeans colonised the vast country. Traditional Brazilian preparation is the roasting, grounding and drying of the seeds, using this paste for herbal tea.
Guarana contains xanthin derivatives (incl. caffeine, theobromine and theophylline), tannins and saponines.
Guarana suppresses fatigue and contains natural caffeine (3-4 %), making the seeds the perfect mental pick-me-up.
Also available as a tonic
